Good Spirits News: Yobo Luxe Soju Review
Founded in 2015 by Carolyn Kim, lawyer and mother of twins, the Yobo Spirit House is on a mission to elevate the Korean American Spirit.
Carolyn, born in Los Angeles, CA, saw the chance to create a modern American-made soju. Defying the stereotypes of ‘traditional’ soju, Carolyn created America’s first craft soju, one produced in the New York Finger Lakes and made entirely from local grapes. Beyond the liquid itself, she aimed to make a statement about her identity as a Korean American female entrepreneur. Now, YOBO is produced in California and is made from a blend of Northern California wine grapes, local short-grain Calrose rice, and organic wheat. Since 2015, they have expanded their portfolio which includes YOBO Soju Luxe (23% ABV); Kish Apéritifs, an imaginative range of apéritifs created in collaboration with Top Chef winner, Kristen Kish; KTOWN Soju, a line of all-natural flavored soju, and Hunni Sparkling Soju, a line of canned soju cocktails.

Somewhat rooty in flavor, there is a surprising depth here that adds intrigue. A round mouthfeel, ending on a semi-tannic dry note. A very well-done Soju perfect for food pairings or sipping as an alternative to vodka.
GSN Rating: A-
