12 margarita recipes to make at home for National Margarita Day
CLEVELAND, Ohio — National Margarita Day is celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 22, this year, and a bitterly cold weekend in Greater Cleveland is a perfect excuse to mix up cocktails at home in celebration.
A simple margarita is typically a combination of tequila or an agave spirit of choice, lime juice and orange liqueur or juice. However, many booze brands and restaurants have played around with the traditional format to put fun spins on the basic drink.
Tequila is the most popular base for margaritas. The distilled spirit must be made in one of the five Mexican states where it’s legal to produce tequila, most often Jalisco. Additionally, it must be made with Blue Weber agave. Other agave varietals are used to make mezcal, a similar distilled spirit.
Additionally, if a Blue Weber-based spirit is made outside of Mexico’s designated states, it is legally referred to as an agave spirit.
In honor of National Margarita Day, check out 12 recipes for inventive margaritas at home. The majority use a base of tequila or mezcal to mix things up, and all of them are as creative as they are delicious.
KTOWN Soju’s Yuzu Margarita
